Tivoli System Automation (TSA) troubleshooting: A socket operation failed

Troubleshooting

Problem

Tivoli System Automation (TSA) commands giving error message 'A socket operation failed'

Symptom

Using TSA (Tivoli System Automation) commands like lsrpdomain or lssam on a node give the following message:

bdwplappstdby01:~ # lsrpdomain

2610-637 The security library routine sec_setup_socket() returned error

10: "2650-008 A socket operation failed."

Cause

The reason for this error message is most likely a problem with one of the directories /var or /tmp.
Check for sufficient space on these directories as well as for correct permissions and ownership.
Ownership must be bin:bin and the permissions for these directories must be 777.

Environment

Linux

Resolving The Problem

To solve the problem allow for space to be available on /var and /tmp.

Change ownership to bin:bin if necessary and change permissions to 777.

If this does not solve the problem it might be necessary to recycle the Resource Monitoring and Control Subsystem (RMC) on the Management Server
node.

To do this do the following steps on the Management Server Node:

1) /usr/sbin/rsct/bin/rmcctrl -z
2) /usr/sbin/rsct/bin/rmcctrl -A
3) /usr/sbin/rsct/bin/rmcctrl -p

to stop (1), start (2) and reestablish remote client connections (3) .
