Resolving the problem

These acronyms describe components of an IBM lifecycle management system known as Tivoli Configuration Manager (TCM). Tivoli Endpoint Manager is able to manage Software Package Blocks (SPB) on Windows endpoints using the Software Install Engine (SIE) installer runtime. Customers of TEM who also have existing libraries of SPB packages may use TEM to deploy those existing packages. This support is intended to aid customers choosing to migrate from TCM to TEM, and does not include a capability to create SPB files.

To leverage this technology, subscribe to the Client Manager for TCM site and enable the analyses in that site. These will enable TEM to see clients that are enabled for SIE and to see software package status on these clients. The Client Manager for TCM site also includes Tasks to install SIE and Tasks which will issue Refresh, Accept, Commit, and Remove commands to the SIE software catalog. SPB packages may be imported into the Software Distribution dashboard as normal packages, and their installation variables may be set during Task creation in order to modify installation behavior.
