Why does my TEM Agent log say that Wake-on-Lan configuration failed?

The TEM Agent log shows the error message "Configuring listener failed to initialize as Wake-on-Lan forwarder" while configuring Wake-On-Lan.

Resolving the problem

For TEM Wake-on-LAN (WoL) to work properly, the TEM Server and Relays need to be able to determine the MAC Address and destination address of each computer. If you see the TEM Agent with the following error message in the logs, it means that the server/relay could not properly determine how to wake up the computer :
"Configuring listener failed to initialize as wake-on-lan forwarder(AdapterInfo=)."

The two most common reasons for this error are:

  • There is a NAT between theTEM Agent and TEM Relay -- In this case, the relay cannot determine which mac address/network adapter should be used for the WoL packet. One way to solve this issue is to put a relay on the other side of the NAT.
  • The computer has many network adapters -- If the computer has many network adapters, it is possible that the WoL interaction will not work. The server/relay currently only check the first three network adapters. If the adapter that is used by theTEM Agent is not in the first three adapters, then WoL will not work properly.
