Determining BigFix Client CPU Speed
How does the BigFix Client determine CPU speed?
Resolving the problem
The BigFix Client will examine the hardware to determine what APIs are supported and the best method to measure the CPU on the device. It will then measure the apparent CPU speed using one of the following three methods:
- The client will attempt to measure the elapsed time on the High-Resolution Counter as compared to the elapsed cycles on the Time Stamp Register.
- The client can attempt to use the CMOS timer.
- The client may also attempt to measure the number of cycles per Bit Scan Forward (BSF) instruction.
