Can the TEM database be located on a shared SQL Server?

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Can the TEM database be located on a shared SQL Server?

Resolving the problem

It is highly recommended that you use a dedicated SQL Server for the TEM Server database. TEM is designed to be a real-time system and achieving real-time updates requires a high-performance, consistent database. The server will issue updates in SQL as TEM Client reports are received. In addition, TEM Consoles will request frequent updates of their data to keep their view consistent with incoming data. The constant flux of data from the TEM database usually causes performance problems with other applications since SQL always has some work to do for TEM.

It is also recommended that SQL be installed on the TEM Server to help deliver consistent performance, but even on a remote database installation it is recommended that a dedicated SQL Server be used on the back end.
