.NET Framework 1.0 SP 3 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1 will not complete with MS05-004 installed

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do I uninstall .NET Framework patch MS05-004?,

Answer

Both .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 and .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 will not complete installation if you have already installed MS05-004. To apply both the Service Pack update and MS05-004, you must install the latest Service Pack before applying MS05-004.

If you already have MS05-004 installed, attempts to install .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 through TEM will lead to a 'Failed' action. Attempts to install the patch manually will lead to one of the following error messages:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB867461) cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again.

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB867460) cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again.

To resolve this issue, Microsoft recommends uninstalling MS05-004, installing .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 or .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 and then re-installing MS05-004.

The following custom action script can be used to uninstall MS05-004 silently on Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home/Professional:

wait "{(value "InstallRoot" of key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework" of registry as string) & ((if (exists key "M886904" of it) then ("v1.1.4322\Updates\hotfix.exe") else ("v1.0.3705\Updates\hotfix.exe")) of key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" of registry)}" /q /y /z "{(value "InstallRoot" of key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework" of registry as string) & ((if (exists key "M886904" of it) then ("v1.1.4322\Updates\M886904\M886904Uninstall.msp") else ("v1.0.3705\Updates\M886905\M886905Uninstall.msp"))) of key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" of registry}"

For .NET Framework 1.0 SP2 on Windows XP Tablet PC or Windows XP Windows Media Center, use this action script:

wait {(value "UninstallString" of key "KB887999" of key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" of registry as string)} /quiet /passive /norestart Note: for information regarding creating custom content please see the following document: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/wikis/home?lang=en#/wiki/Tivoli%20Endpoint%20Manager/page/Fixlet%20Authoring
