Problem(Abstract)

Deploying Anti-Virus definition updates is most commonly done through Fixlet messages in the Client Manager for Endpoint Protection Fixlet site. Fixlet content in the site is updated frequently to help maintain current virus definition files across your network.

Resolving the problem

Deploying Anti-Virus definition updates is most commonly done through Fixlet messages in the Client Manager for Endpoint Protection Fixlet site. Fixlet content in the site is updated frequently to help maintain current virus definition files across your network. As an alternative, the Anti-Virus Definition Update Task Wizard can be used to deploy arbitrary definition files for supported Anti-Virus applications. This is useful if you wish to deploy a definition update that is different from the current definition file supported in the Fixlet content. Prior to running the wizard you will need to make sure your Anti-Virus application is supported. Please contact TEM if your Anti-Virus application is not supported by the wizard. The wizard currently supports the following Anti-Virus applications:

  • McAfee VirusScan 4.0.3 ~ 7.0
  • McAfee VirusScan 8i
  • McAfee VirusScan 8.5i/8.7i
  • McAfee VirusScan 8.x for Mac
  • Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Symantec Anti-Virus 10.2 for Mac (PowerPC)
  • Symantec Anti-Virus 10.2 for Mac (Intel)
The wizard will prompt you for the Anti-Virus application and for the location of the definition update file you would like to deploy. In addition, you can customize the various textfields of your task. After completion, the generated task will appear in the TEM Console and will allow you to deploy the definition update file to TEM Clients. Important Note: The definition update executable provided by Symantec may not update virus definition files successfully on some Windows NT machines. If affected computers report back 'Failed' for the generated task action, apply the update manually.
