Can I encrypt ODBC communications between the TEM Server and TEM Console?

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

TEM uses Microsoft's ODBC for its TEM Console connection to the SQL Server Database. TEM has no ability to adjust Microsoft's security model built into ODBC.

Resolving the problem

If you would like to encrypt the TEM Server / TEM Console traffic, you can do one of the following:

  1. Enable ODBC encryption on the TEM system DSN using ODBCAD32. See
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;276553 for more information.
  2. Use an encrypted tunnel using IPSEC.
  3. Use an encrypted tunnel using SSH.
  4. Use an encrypted tunnel using a VPN.
