Problem(Abstract)

This issue is most likely caused by a proxy server or firewall configuration that will not allow the TEM Gather Service to access the Internet.

Resolving the problem

This issue is most likely caused by a proxy server or firewall configuration that will not allow the TEM Gather Service to access the Internet.

The TEM Gather Service is a service that runs on the TEM Server machine and is the only component of the TEM Enterprise Suite that directly accesses the Internet. Since Windows services automatically run as the Windows SYSTEM account, certain proxy or firewall configurations will not allow the TEM Gather Service to access the Internet.

To fix this problem, you will need to configure your proxy or firewall to allow the BES Garher Service to access the Internet or you will need to make the TEM Gather Service run as a user that can access the Internet.

To configure the TEM Gather Service to run as a user that can access the Internet (Note: This will work for most proxies, but if your proxy has special requirements, such as only allowing domain users to access the Internet, you will need assistance from your network administrator):
1. Create a local Windows Administrator account
2. Log in to Windows as the local Windows Administrator account you just created and set up the
account to access the Internet through the proxy
3. Verify that you can access http://www.bigfix.com
4. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
5. Double click on "TEM Gather Service"
6. Click on the "Log On" tab and set the service to log on as the user you just created
7. Restart the TEM Gather Service
8. Open the Console and verify that the Fixlet sites are gathering (it may take a minute or two before the Fixlet sites begin to gather)

Note: The TEM Diagnostics Tool that comes installed on the TEM Server (available at Start > Programs > Tivolo Endpoint manager Enterprise > TEM Diagnostics Tool) has a diagnostic check that will check to see if the TEM Server is able to access the Internet.

Note: Beginning in BES 5.1 there is a button on the "Tools > Manage Sites" window labelled "Gather All Sites" which can be used to request the TEM Gather Service gather all current sites.
