Question

How can we ensure these email pass through the LPME server and get encrypted.

Cause

We debugged the Domino LDAP that the LPME server was querying and we saw that LPME was querying based on the "mail" attribute. To solve our customers problem we need LPME to query Domino for the "CN" attribute as well?

Answer

The problem is with outgoing email address that have the short name

email address already set on their way out to the internet. Our customer has many applications that use the short name only to route email, this is hard coded into the application. These short names are in the bottom of the user name field (of the end users person document) on Domino. So for a given user the short name combined with their domain gives us an acceptable routable email address. In our customers case it is: User1@domail.com where user1 corresponds to the short name field of his person document in Domino. This is different from his internet address field on his person document, in this field we have populated the full internet name of User_One@domain.com. To Domino either address is acceptable and routable. When LPME (PGP) server does the
LDAP search to Domino LDAP server looking for the mail attribute it is
not finding the shortname email address, which corresponds to the LDAP
CN attribute. We need the LPME (PGP) server to search both the Mail and
CN attributes. To resolve this problem we helped our customer customize LPME to search for the mail attribute and the CN attribute. Now these email are going though the LPME server encrypted.
