Question & Answer
Question
How can I acquire the bind files (.bnd) that are included for a specific version and fix pack?
Cause
Included in every Db2 install image are bind files (sqllib/bnd/*.bnd) containing the packages for various database and CLI utilities. Many of these bind files correspond to utilities that are incorporated into the Runtime client. If your runtime client is of a different release or fix pack level than the database server, then you first need to bind the .bnd files associated with your runtime client to the database.
A new Db2 database server can accept connections from various remote clients, with each client able to run utilities that are associated with specific bind files. This situation makes it difficult to track down the bind files for each version of remote client that is connecting to your server.
For example, suppose you deploy a new database created on Db2 11.5.5.1. An application that is executing on a remotely connected client can be running an older version of the Db2 runtime client, such as Db2 11.1.4.4. If the application attempts to use a utility like CLP, Import, or Export, the application might generate an SQL0805N error. This error can occur because the package associated with the older version of the utility was not bound to the new database. You need to bind the packages using the bind files from the client version.
Links are provided in the Related information section of this page for downloading the BIND files that you need.
Answer
Included in this tech note are .tar files that contain the bind files for all Db2 11.5, 11.1, and 10.5 fix packs
How to use the tar file:
- Download the .tar file to your computer.
- Extract the files:
tar -xvf <tarfilename>
- Locate the sub-directory for the fix pack that you want to bind.
- Identify the bind files that you need and run the DB2 BIND command to bind the packages to your database.
The needed BIND Command syntax is included in each .tar file.
