ALERT: Under high, parallel build loads, Rational Build Forge suffers intermittent build death

Flash (Alert)

Abstract

After a move from blocking to non-blocking input/output (I/O) in IBM Rational Build Forge version 7.1.2.2 to counteract problems seen when the underlying operating system loses network bytes (resulting in the main buildforge engine process blocking forever), random bfproject processes will exit when starved from network I/O availability.

Content

This usually surfaces during large parallel build execution, and leaves failed builds with a note saying "Process for [uuid] died unexpectedly". The definition of "large" is dependent on local factors.

Any customers running Rational Build Forge 7.1.2.x are encouraged to upgrade to the latest maintenance build which is available via the Rational Build Forge downloads section on Jazz.net.
