Using the Personal Communication Certificate Management utility may not create the IBM Global Security Kit key database files

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

After installing IBM Personal Communications version 6.0.2, the Certificate Manager utility may not create the key database files used by IBM Global Security Kit feature on Microsoft Windows.

Symptom

The Certificate Manager utility (pcsikm.exe) may not create the four GSKit related files

PCommClientKeyDb.crl
PCommClientKeyDb.kdb
PCommClientKeyDb.rdb
PCommClientKeyDb.sth

on some Windows machines.

Cause

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) is not installed in order for the files to be created.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the problem, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).

This installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ SP1 on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 SP1 installed.

This package installs runtime components of C Runtime (CRT), Standard C++, ATL, MFC, OpenMP and MSDIA libraries.

For libraries that support side-by-side deployment model (CRT, SCL, ATL, MFC, OpenMP) they are installed into the native assembly cache, also called WinSxS folder, on versions of Windows operating system that support side-by-side assemblies.

The details about this package can be found on the Microsoft download center.
