Rational Directory Administrator not starting due to port already in use

Technote (FAQ)

Question

I have another tool using Apache Tomcat, how do I change the port numbers that the Rational Directory Administrator (RDA) is using on the same machine.

Cause

With Apache Tomcat, will always use the same default ports (8080, 8009, 8005, 8443) within the server.xml file.

Answer

In order to change the Tomcat ports used by IBM Rational Directory Administrator (RDA):

On Unix:

    1. Modify the server.xml file located in: /var/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.X/WebAccessServer/apache-tomcat-6.0.24/conf
Edit the server.xml file to change the default values of the ports to values that are not currently in use in your system.
    2. You will need to change the following ports 8005, 8009, 8443, and 8080.
    3. Save the server.xml file and start the Rational Directory Server.

      /var/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.X/WebAccessServer/Start_RDAWebServer.sh

On Microsoft Windows:

    1. Modify the server.xml file located in C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\RDS_5.X\WebAccessServer\apache-tomcat-6.0.24\conf
    2. Edit the server.xml file to change the default values of the ports to values that are not currently in use in your system.
    3. You will need to change the following ports 8005, 8009, 8443, and 8080.
    4. Save the server.xml file and start the Rational Directory Server.

      C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\RDS_5.X\WebAccessServer\Start_RDAWebServer.bat
