Change and Configuration Management Application is listed as unknown after registration

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to register the IBM Change and Configuration Management application in IBM Rational Team Concert results in the application listed as unknown in IBM Jazz Team Server.

Symptom

The following symptoms may be seen:

  • The dashboards page does not fully resolve
  • You cannot create a new widget through the dashboards page
  • Within the Jazz Team Server, under "Registered Applications" the Change and Configuration Management application is listed but is described as "unknown"
  • There is no link to the Change and Configuration Management application on the Jazz Team Server home page
  • When clicking on the home icon from Change and Configuration Management application, you receive the following error:
"A problem communicating with the Jazz Team Server discovery service has prevented the home menu from loading. Your Jazz Team Server may be configured incorrectly."

Cause

This may occur when Rational Team Concert is referencing old consumer keys instead of the new keys generated by registering the Change and Configuration Management application. This can happen when you delete and recreate the consumer keys or re-register the Change and Configuration Management application.

Resolving the problem

Steps to resolution:

Note: The following steps assume that you have just deleted/re-registered the Change and Configuration Management application or individual consumer keys.

  1. After having re-registered the Change and Configuration Management application, you will have new consumer keys for the Change and Configuration Management, dashboard, repository and theme by default on the Jazz Team Server Consumers (Inbound) screen

  2. Copy the keys for the dashboard, repository and theme to a notepad for your reference later

  3. Shut down the server

  4. On the command prompt, navigate to Jazz_Install_directory\JazzTeamServer\server

  5. Using repotools, run the following command:

    repotools-jts -listStorageAreaKeys toFile=C:\Temp\storageAreaKeys.csv

  6. Open the storageAreaKeys.csv file in word pad and replace the listed consumer keys with your existing keys which were saved in notepad in step 2.

Note: dashboard is listed twice, enter the corresponding dashboard key twice

  7. Save the changes to storageAreaKeys.csv file

  8. Using repotools, run the following command:

    repotools-jts -setStorageAreaKeys fromFile=C:\Temp\storageAreaKeys.csv

  9. Start the Jazz Team Server

Upon accessing the Jazz team Server you will notice that the Dashboard issues have now been fully resolved as well as the Home button. However, the link between the Jazz Team Server/Change and Configuration Management application still needs to be re-established.
  1. From the Jazz Team Server, navigate to the Registered Applications and delete the existing entry for the Change and Configuration Management application marked as "unknown". This will automatically delete the consumer key for the application.
  2. From the Change and Configuration Management application, navigate to the Friends(Outbound) screen and delete the existing listing for the Jazz Team Server
  3. From the Change and Configuration Management application, navigate to the Consumers(Inbound) and delete the corresponding consumer key for the Jazz Team Server
  4. Run through the Setup Wizard one final time to re-register the Change and Configuration Management application

After performing these steps the links between the Jazz Team Server and Change and Configuration Management application will be re-established.
