Problem
Can SPSS Statistics/Modeler client users connect to the SPSS Concurrent Licensing Manager through a VPN(Virtual Private Networking) connection?
Resolving The Problem
The current release of the IBM SPSS Concurrent License Manager and Tools is version 9.10:
The following document assumes IBM SPSS Concurrent Licensing Tools 9.10 - License Manager
VPN technology is invisible to IBM SPSS client products and poses no problem to their functioning.
When troubleshooting IBM SPSS Concurrent User licensing issues, there are assumptions the licensing software makes regardless of the presence or absence of a VPN:
- The Sentinel RMS License Manager and the SPSS client products consuming license tokens are in the same subnet.
- Multiple Sentinel RMS License Managers participating in a redundant pool are all in the same subnet.
- The Sentinel RMS License Manger communicates with its clients on UDP port 5093. This port must be allowed in both directions on any firewalls existing between the license manager and the client.
- The Sentinel RMS License Managers participating in a redundant pool all communicate with one another on UDP port 5099. This port must be allowed in both directions on any firewalls existing between them.
- The Sentinel RMS License Manager supports IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. However, the clients and the license managers must be deployed in the same way (for example both IPv4 only, both IPv6 only, both Dual stack). This can come into play when attempting to connect IBM SPSS client products to a Sentinel RMS License Manager via Microsoft Direct Access. See APAR PI29945
