Does the SPSS MIXED procedure produce effect size estimates?

Troubleshooting

Problem

I'm estimating a mixed model in the SPSS MIXED procedure and would like to estimate measures of effect sizes. Does the procedure offer these?

Resolving The Problem

The MIXED procedure in SPSS does not provide estimates of effect sizes. Definitions and interpretations of effect size measures in models with multiple error terms can be complicated, and various measures have been proposed for standard models often analyzed using MIXED, such as multilevel or hierarchical models. You would need to decide on an appropriate set of measures for your particular model and construct them from the information provided in the MIXED output. A useful reference on the topic for multilevel or hierarchical models is:

Snijders, T., & Bosker, R. (1999). Multilevel Analysis: An introduction to basic and advanced multilevel modeling. London: Sage Publications
