Domino 8.5.2 crashes with Error Message: PANIC: AccessAllProtected() error *** from MapSharedRegion on pool *** of *** pools
Your Lotus Domino 8.5.2 server crashes with the following error message:
PANIC: AccessAllProtected() error *** (this number can be 1B1 or 107 or other) from MapSharedRegion on pool *** (this number can be any 3 digit pool number) of *** (total number of) pools.
The following crash stacks are most likely to be seen:
1. on AIX
2. on Windows
NSD also reports: "Process memory for nHTTP (PID:****) is near the OS limit".
HTTP memory allocation has an incorrect setting in the notes.ini on the server: HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize=1024M
In most cases you will see the following:
1. The crash stacks match the above.
2. The HTTP process memory is near the OS limit in the NSD.
3. HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize=1024M is set above 256.
This problem has been seen in Domino 8.5.2 on AIX and Windows.
Resolving the problem
HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize should be set at either the new default for 852 > 64M HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize=64M.
This can also be set to HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize=256M as per technote 1377202 What is the HTTPJVMMaxHeapSize notes.ini parameter in Domino 8.5 and what should it be set to?
Another option is to delete the ini parameters HTTPJVMHeapSize and HTTPJVMHeapSizeSet from the notes.ini and restart the server. These will be recreated. Check that they are set to the defaults after the restart:
