Cannot start the Rational Team Concert Eclipse client

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to start the IBM Rational Team Concert Eclipse client results in an error and failure to start the eclipse client.

Symptom

The following error message will be seen when trying to open the Rational Team Concert eclipse client:

	at org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main.basicRun(Main.java:504)

at org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main.run(Main.java:1236)

Cause

This occurs because you do not have permissions to access the SDPshared folder.

This shared directory is the common part that will be loaded and provisioned by any Rational Eclipse based toolkit and act as a plug-in cache.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue:

Navigate to C:\Program Files\IBM\SDPShared directory

Note: In some cases, the SDPShared folder could be named as IMShared. For more details, please see Technote 1444138.
Right-click and click Properties
Click the Security tab
Select your user name in the Permission entries window.
Click Edit
Select the following permissions:

Read & Execute
List Folder Contents
Read

Click OK

Note: To change permissions, you must be the owner or have permission to change permissions by the owner.
