Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to configure Tomcat to run as a Microsoft Windows service for use with IBM Rational Team Concert results in the Catalina log showing an SSLContext not available error which prevents the server from starting correctly.
Symptom
The following error will be seen in the catalina.log file:
org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11BaseProtocol init SEVERE: Error initializing endpoint
java.io.IOException: ${jazz.connector.sslProtocol} SSLContext not available
at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.jsse.JSSE14SocketFactory.init(JSSE14SocketFactory.java:132)
at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.jsse.JSSESocketFactory.createSocket(JSSESocketFactory.java:96)
at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.PoolTcpEndpoint.initEndpoint(PoolTcpEndpoint.java:293)
Cause
When configuring Tomcat to run as a Windows service, the Java Options should include Secure Socket Layer, or SSL, configuration. This is a new feature to IBM Rational Team Concert 3.0, and was not a required parameter for IBM Rational Team Concert 2.x versions.
Resolving The Problem
- Open the Java Options for the Tomcat service by running the <JazzInstallDir>\server\tomcat\bin\tomcat5w.exe
- Click the Java tab
- Under Java Options, Ensure that the following parameter is included:-Djazz.connector.sslProtocol=SSL_TLS
- Proceed with the instructions on configuring IBM Rational Team Concert and Tomcat as a Windows service.
- Ensure that you select "Apply" and "OK" once finished.
