How to transfer existing workspace customizations to a new workspace

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do you transfer existing filters, library lists, connections, user-defined actions, or compiles to a new workspace from IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software or IBM Rational Developer for i?

Cause

If you create a new workspace, you get a blank workspace with no connections, filters, or library lists. To prevent recreating these settings, you can copy the profile settings from the existing workspace.

Answer

  1. Go to the old workspace path,

    [Old_Workspace_Path]\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.rse.core\profiles\PRF.***_0.

  2. Zip the profile directory from the old workspace path.

  3. Go to the new workspace path,

    [New_Workspace_Path]\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.rse.core\profiles.

  4. Unzip the zip file to

    [New_Workspace_Path]\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.rse.core\profiles.

Note: If you have not made any additions to the new workspace, you should remove or copy over the original profile.

  5. Restart your IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software or IBM Rational Developer for i using this new workspace.
