WARNING: Not enough temp space for parallel index build

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

You run CREATE INDEX but see a warning similar to this:

WARNING: Not enough temp space for parallel index build.
Space required = 1000000 pages; space available = 50000 pages.
Partial index build started.

Cause

There is not enough TEMP space available for sorting required during a parallel index build.

Resolving the problem

You do not have to take action. This is a warning. The database server will create the index one fragment at a time, instead of all at once.

If you want the index to build more quickly in parallel, then follow these steps:

1. Cancel the currently running CREATE INDEX statement.
2. Add more temporary space by adding chunks to current temporary dbspaces or by adding new temporary dbspaces. Creating a temporary dbspace Make sure you add enough space to least equal the number of pages the Warning requested.
3. Rerun the CREATE INDEX statement. Improving performance for index builds
