Diagnosing The Problem
Collecting Tivoli Storage Manager trace of the failed backup using the API and SERVICE traceflags will show the following:
18:46:30.477 [002632] [1] : pscomtcp.cpp psTcpSend(): Sending to socket 44 (IPv4) -> rc=-1, errno=32 18:46:30.477 [002632] [1] : commtcp.cpp TcpFlush: error 32 during send.
18:46:30.478 [002632] [1] : commtcp.cpp ANS1006I TCP/IP write error on socket = 44, errno = 32, reason : Broken pipe
18:46:30.486 [002632] [1] : session.cpp sessSendVerb: Error sending Verb, rc: -50 18:46:30.487 [002632] [1] : commtcp.cpp TcpClose(): Closing socket
Resolving The Problem
The API trace shows the write error for the TCPIP transmissions, which is indicative of a network problem as the cause of this failure.
In this case there was a duplicate IP address on the network for this node that caused the broken pipe to occur.
It may be necessary to involve your local network team and/or utilize a network sniffer to pinpoint the failure.
