Report output in MS-Excel 2007 format returns errors accessing Sybase IQ data source (ODBC connection) or does not display specific characters properly (i.e. output format Execl 2000 or PDF)
Symptom
Report output format: Excel 2007 in 8.3 and 8.4

Excel is able to open the file after repairing or removing unreadable content.

Report output format: Excel 2000 or PDF (8.3, 8.4) or Excel 2007 (generated with 8.4.1):
No errors, but instead of the specific character (here Euro or Trade Mark symbol) a square box is displayed.
Cause
Specific characters cause the issue. Particular with the Euro and Trade Mark symbol the error could be replicated.
Environment
IBM Cognos 8 BI running on Windows.
ODBC connection to Sybase IQ v12.7
Sybase IQ character set: iso_1; DefaultCollation: ISO1LATIN1; Language: us_english
Resolving the problem
In the Sybase IQ ODBC configuration specify the character set defined for the Sybase IQ data base.
In this case it must be set to: iso_1
