Problem
V6 Tivoli Storage Manager BACKUP DB failures with error ANR2968E Database backup terminated. DB2 sqlcode: -2033. DB2 sqlerrmc: 168.
Symptom
The following error is encountered after initiating a BACKUP DB process:
11/09/2010 10:00:43 ANR2968E Database backup terminated. DB2 sqlcode: -2033. DB2 sqlerrmc: 168. (SESSION: 1647, PROCESS: 124)
Cause
The sqlerrmc 168 return code means the following:
0168 E DSM_RC_NO_PASS_FILE
The cause is that access to the Tivoli Storage Manager API password file was denied (TSM.PWD). With out this password file, the API cannot connect to the Server to complete the BACKUP DB.
The TSM.PWD file should be located in the directory referenced by the API's "passworddir" option in the dsm.sys file located here(by default):
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/dsm.sys
Access could be denied because of a permission's issue, or because the API's TSM.PWD does not exist.

Resolving The Problem
If the TSM.PWD file exists at the location specified by the "passworddir", resolve any permission's issues that may exist. This file should have the following permission's, owner, and group settings(for example):
-rw------- 1 root root 151 Sep 21 16:22 TSM.PWD
If the TSM.PWD file does not exist, or cannot be found, regenerate it by setting the API password. More information for completing this can be located at the following link:
