Silent install: Failed to get field handle to set library path NOT sun system

Troubleshooting


Problem

IBM Installation Manager reports "Failed to get field handle to set library path NOT sun system", when you try to install IBM Rational ClearCase or IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.1.2 in silent mode.

Cause

This message is coming from a plug-in that validates the Operating System and prints a message to the log based on the result. A negative result should be treated as a WARNING instead of an ERROR message.
This is a defect of Installation Manager 1.4

Environment

All Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems, except Sun Solaris.

Resolving The Problem

Upgrade to Installation Manager 1.5 or newer.
