Question & Answer
Question
Are some special characters not allowed to be used in user passwords?
Answer
In Maximo version 7.1.1.5 and higher there were characters that were prohibited to prevent the security threat of cross-site scripting. The characters
< > " ' ( ) %
are prohibited because they can generate security violations. The only characters that can be used to protect passwords are
! @ ^ # * and numbers and Aa ... zZ
There is a related issue (APAR IZ65935) with generated passwords that contained these prohibited characters that has been fixed for Maximo 7.1.1.7 and a hotfix is available for earlier versions.
