ClearCase Explorer is slow when browsing dynamic views on Microsoft Windows Vista and later

Technote (troubleshooting)


This technote identifies an issue that can occur in IBM Rational ClearCase where you may see a performance issue when browsing a dynamic view in ClearCase Explorer on Microsoft Windows Vista and later. This issue is not see on Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2003.


This issue was identified as a product defect under APAR PM24815.

Resolving the problem

Defect APAR PM24815 has been resolved in ClearCase and


To workaround the issue:

  1. Set the following Windows registry Value by cutting the below text and pasting it into a new .reg file.


    This solution contains information about modifying the system registry. Before making any modifications to the Microsoft Registry Editor, it is strongly recommended that you make a backup of the existing registry. For more information describing how to back up the registry, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 256986

2. Double-click on the .reg file to apply the update and reboot.

This change reverts the problem behavior to Windows XP.

To re-enable the default behavior, delete the registry value and reboot.
