"A password is required to access ID file..." dialog box is seen when launching Notes

Problem

A strange password prompt is seen when launching the client. The dialog box can be seen below.


Symptom

A different password prompt is seen when launching the client. What is causing this behavior?



Resolving the problem

This dialog box is usually caused by a third party application that is accessing the Notes id file, and the user is then prompted for the password. In this case, Adobe software that was installed on the workstation was causing the issue. Removing the following line from the notes.ini file resolved the dialog box displaying differently:


AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~2.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL
