Change the passwords for IBM InfoSphere Information Server users on Windows

Question

What is the correct procedure to change the passwords for each of my IBM InfoSphere Information Server users (wasadmin, isadmin, xmeta, iadb)?

Answer

There is a specific sequence that should be followed.

First shutdown DataStage Services in the following order:
- Information Server
- WebSphere Service
- DB2 Services

Perform the instructions below for each user, as required, if you are using Local OS authentication.

DB2Admin

  1. Open Computer Management
  2. Open Db2Admin User
  3. Change Password
  4. Change the Password for all DB2 Services to reflect this new password
  5. Open the DB2 Command Window and issue the following command:
    >connect to xmeta user db2admin using <password>
  6. Start DB2 Services
  7. Start Websphere Service

xmeta
  1. Open Computer Management
  2. Open xmeta User
  3. Change Password
  4. Open command prompt and issue the following command:
    ASBServer\bin\AppServerAdmin.bat -db -user <new user name> -password <new password>
  5. Open WAS Console
  6. Browse to: JDBC Provider > ASB JDBC Provider > Data Sources > ASB JDBC Data Source
  7. Test Connection
  8. Start Information Server

iauser
  1. Open Computer Management
  2. Open iauser User
  3. Change Password
  4. Open ODBC Admin(The next 3 steps may not be needed depending on your configuration)
  5. Open IADB
  6. Change Password for iauser
  7. Open Information Server Console
  8. Browse to Configuration > Analysis Settings
  9. Open Analysis Database
  10. Change Password
  11. Validate the settings

Start the Services in the opposite order:
- DB2 Services
- Websphere Service
- Information Server

wasadmin
<After Metadata Workbench is installed>
  1. Open Computer Management
  2. Open wasadmin User
  3. Change Password
    <Always do these>
  4. Open Websphere Admin Console
  5. Open Information Server Web Console

    (It is important to have Websphere Admin opened, as changing the password will lock the user out of Websphere Admin Console otherwise)
  6. In Information Server Web Console on Administration Tab, Click Users
  7. Click wasadmin
  8. Change password
  9. Switch to Websphere Admin Console
  10. Open Global Security > Custom User Registry
  11. Update Password here

isadmin
  1. Open Information Server Admin Console
  2. In Information Server Web Console > Administration Tab, Click Users
  3. Click isadmin
  4. Change password
  5. Open Information Server Web Console
  6. Update password in Datastage Credentials
