Problem
Installing MSI Package ("IBM Cognos TM1.msi") on Windows 7 or Vista or Windows 2008 R2 gives the following error : Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run
Symptom
Installing TM1 MSI Package on Windows 7, Windows 2008 or Vista give the following detailed error:
IBM Cognos TM1 -- Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: SetRoles, location: PKGMGR.EXE, command: /iu:IIS-IIS6ManagementCompatibility;IIS-WMICompatibility;IIS-Metabase;IIS-LegacyScripts;IIS-LegacySnapIn;IIS-StaticContent"
Cause
Either UAC (User Account Control) is preventing execution or "IIS 6 Management Compatibility" option is not installed
Environment
Windows 7 (32-bit only) or Windows Vista Business SP1 or higher (32-bit only) for client installation.
Windows 2008 R2 (64-bits) for server installation.
Note this problem may also occur for other products than TM1.
Resolving The Problem
--> To run the installation : instead of double-clicking file "IBM Cognos TM1.msi", right-click and select "Run as administrator"
--> In case this does not work, do the following :
In Windows Server 2008 by using the Server Manager tool :
-Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
-In the navigation pane, expand Roles, right-click Web Server (IIS), and then click Add Role Services.
-In the Select Role Services pane, scroll down to IIS 6 Management Compatibility.
-Click to select the IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility and IIS 6 Management Console check boxes.
-In the Select Role Services pane, click Next, and then click Install at the Confirm Installations Selections pane.
-Click Close to exit the Add Role Services wizard.
In Windows 7 or in Windows Vista from Control Panel
-Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs and Features, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.
-Open Internet Information Services.
-Open Web Management Tools.
-Open IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility.
-Select the check boxes for IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility and IIS 6 Management Console.
-Click OK.
