IBM InfoSphere DataStage Designer Client Runs Extremely Slow

Troubleshooting

Problem

Login into DataStage Designer takes several minutes (more than 10). After login trying to import jobs can take several minutes to hours depending on job complexity. The database error meesages may be similar to the following: ORA-00018: maximum number of sessions exceeded.

Symptom

Trying to log into DataStage client takes 10+ minutes, and many times much of the page will not "paint".
Unable to import anything but the very simplest job designs server-wide (regardless of project).
DataStage job design import which normally takes 10 seconds takes hours
This behavior is only with job designs; all other objects import as usual.
Extremely simple jobs (>4 stages) import slowly, but within a few minutes.

Resolving The Problem

Check with DBA to see database is stable. Some recommendations are below:

  • Query the v$session to get the number of active and inactive session
  • Query the v$parameter to get the number of session
  • Raise the maximum number of connections or disconnect the inactive session
