External restore fails with different external backup error

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

In the online.log:

21:52:38 External restore started.

21:52:40 The chunk number 9 comes from a different external backup than dbspace 'data01', or the chunk was not externally backed up.

...

In the bar_act.log:

2010-07-14 21:52:44 5868 5104 (-43391) Skipped backup/restore of

space ''data01'.'.

2010-07-14 21:52:44 5868 5104 Completed external restore.

2010-07-14 21:52:44 5878 5104 (-43177) Physical restore complete.

Logical restore required before work can continue. Use 'onbar -r -l' to do logical restore.

If the physical restore is from a whole-system backup, then logical restore is not required.

Cause

  • The database server was not in the correct state when the chunk was copied like offline, blocked (onmode -c block), or quiescent.
  • The Storage Manager ( like EMC ) is not restoring the correct chunks.
