Connecting to Jazz Repository results in "Failed to contact the repository <Servername>" error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to log into the Jazz Repository from a stand-alone Eclipse 3.5.x client using the IBM Rational Team Concert plug-in results in the error "Failed to contact the repository ".

Symptom

Rational Team Concert 2.x
After preforming the necessary steps to install IBM Rational Team Concert version 2.x plug-ins into a stand-alone Eclipse 3.5.x client, a connection to the repository using the correct username and password, is unsuccessful and results in the following error:

When reviewing the log files, the following error may be present:

The service "com.ibm.team.repository.common.internal.IRepositoryRemoteService" failed... Examine any further details here or look in the server log files for more information on how to resolve the issue.

However, the service is installed and running correctly as seen on the Server Component Status Page on the Administrative Web User Interface of the Jazz Team Server (as indicated by the green check mark to the left of the service name, as seen in the screen shot below).

Rational Team Concert 3.x
This problem may also manifest itself with the following error in Rational Team Concert version 3.x:
CRJAZ6002E Failed to log into 'server.com'

CRJAZ0099I When accessing the URL "...server.com:9443/ccm/versionCompatibility?clientVersion=3.0.1"
the following HTTP error occurred: "Remote host closed connection during handshake"

Remote host closed connection during handshake. SSL peer shut down incorrectly

Cause

When IBM Rational Team Concert plug-ins are installed into a stand-alone Eclipse client, the default setting for Network Connections is set to Native. This means that connections are to be made through the Operating System configuration as a proxy server.

Resolving The Problem

Change the Network Connections setting to Direct to allow all connections to be opened without the use of a proxy server.

  1. In the Eclipse window, navigate to Window > Preferences

  2. In the Preference Window, Navigate to General > Network Connections.

  3. The Active Provider should be changed from Native to Direct.

    • Direct provider allows all connections to be made without a proxy server or additional configuration.
    • Manual provider will use the settings configured in the Eclipse Client.
    • Native provider allows connections to be made through the Operating System configuration as a proxy server.

  4. Click OK.

Note: A restart of the Eclipse client may be required for the settings to take affect.
