Effective May 13, 2010, FileNet Fax can no longer be obtained directly from IBM. End of support for version 5.1.0 will be effective September 30, 2011.
Under an agreement with the supplier, Open Text, existing and prospective FileNet Fax customers can obtain the current release of the software directly from Open Text. Open Text is offering a special program for FileNet Fax customers, which allows you to maintain your fax solution for FileNet Capture and FileNet print. As part of this transition, customers can also elect to acquire support directly from Open Text.
Q: What is happening with FileNet Fax?
Effective May 13, 2010 IBM will no longer sell FileNet Fax. You will be able to purchase the equivalent product directly from the product supplier, Open Text. As part of this transition, you can elect to acquire support directly from Open Text.
Open Text now markets the offering under the name Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition, and the current version is 9.4. This Open Text product maintains the same integration with FileNet Capture and FileNet Print as the withdrawn FileNet Fax product. You can purchase or upgrade to this version by obtaining it directly from Open Text.

Effective immediately, you will be able to purchase the Fax capability directly from Open Text.
Q: What is the benefit to me?
Customers who obtain licenses and support from Open Text gain ongoing support, entitlements to the latest Open Text Fax Server releases, and may have opportunities to purchase new fax capabilities in the future.
Q: How do I upgrade my FileNet Fax licenses to Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition?
Open Text is offering an upgrade program for all FileNet Fax customers. The name of the program is “Open Text Upgrade Now”. Existing FileNet Fax customers can convert FileNet Fax systems into fully licensed Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition servers through the “Open Text Upgrade Now” program. The Upgrade Now program allows you, as a FileNet Fax customer, to upgrade to the latest version of software, Fax Server 9.4, and purchase the applicable support plan.
For FileNet Fax customers making the transition to Open Text Fax Server, this program provides the following:
· New licenses for Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition
· Upgrade to Fax Server version 9.4
· Updated RightFax Connector for FileNet Fax
· Product support directly from Open Text.

Changing support to Open Text is voluntary for customers, who ‘opt in’ by contacting Open Text about the FileNet Fax Upgrade offer.
Q: What will happen if I do nothing?
You can continue to use your current version FileNet Fax software. Support for version 5.1.0 will be available from IBM until the End of Support date (9/30/2011). No Support Extensions beyond that date are planned to be offered.
Q: Will IBM be offering an alternative fax solution?
IBM has no plans to introduce another fax solution. Rather, Open Text has indicated that they will continue to develop and support the integration between RightFax and associated FileNet Capture and Print products.
Q: Are there changes to the integration between the RightFax Server and FileNet Capture?
There are no functional changes; however Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition version 9.4 now supports the integration to FileNet Capture release 5.2.
Q: Will there be a migration for customers with existing Fax?
There is no ‘migration’ associated with this change. The change affects the licensing and support relationships and the opportunity to upgrade to the newer release from Open Text.
