Abstract
There is an AIX APAR IZ74508 associated with AIX 6.1 TL 4 SP 3, and APAR IZ74749 associated with AIX 5.5 TL 11 SP 3, which cause the Tivoli Storage Manager server and its associated DB2 process to hang. The hang can occur at any time but is seen most often during Expiration and Database Backup.
Content
AIX has accepted an APAR related to the bos.iocp.rte fileset. This fileset is for the AIX I/O Completion Ports (IOCP). Tivoli Storage Manager's database manager, DB2, makes use of IOCP in some environments, and might encounter this error. The symptom is generally a hung server. The error has been encountered on AIX 6.1.4.3, 6.1.5.0, and 5.5.11.3.
If you are at or above one of these system levels, and encounter a hang, you should obtain the e-fix for the APAR from AIX support.
For AIX 5.5, the interim fix is found at ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/efixes/iz74749
For AIX 6.1, the interim fix is found at ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/efixes/iz74508
The interim fix may not apply to AIX 6.1.5.0, but the error has been seen at this level.
In lieu of the AIX e-fix, you can configure DB2 to not use IOCP. To do this, complete the following steps:
1. Log in as the Tivoli Storage Manager instance user.
2. Halt the Tivoli Storage Manager server.
3. Issue this command:
db2set DB2_USE_IOCP=OFF
4. Restart the Tivoli Storage Manager server.
