Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do you connect to a Proventia Network Security Controller (PNSC) or Proventia Network Active Bypass (PNAB) using a serial cable?

Answer

The Proventia Network Security Controller (PNSC) and Proventia Network Active Bypass (PNAB) appliances use serial interface settings that are different than those used by other Proventia appliances. This article lists the settings necessary to connect to a PNSC or PNAB appliance with a serial cable.
Here are the details of how to configure the serial connection:

  1. Connect a serial cable from your local system to the PNSC/PNAB.
  2. Configure a terminal emulator with the following settings:
    Bits per second: 115,200
    Data bits: 8
    Parity: N
    Stop: 1
    Flow Control: None
    Emulation: VT100
  3. You should now be able to see output from the PNSC/PNAB on your terminal emulator. If you cannot, please verify the PNSC/PNAB is plugged in and the serial cable is properly connected.
