Question
How do you connect to a Proventia Network Security Controller (PNSC) or Proventia Network Active Bypass (PNAB) using a serial cable?
Answer
The Proventia Network Security Controller (PNSC) and Proventia Network Active Bypass (PNAB) appliances use serial interface settings that are different than those used by other Proventia appliances. This article lists the settings necessary to connect to a PNSC or PNAB appliance with a serial cable.
Here is how to configure the serial connection:
- Connect a serial cable from a local PC to the Proventia Network Security Controller.
- Configure a terminal emulator with the following settings:
Bits per second: 115,200
Data bits: 8
Parity: N
Stop: 1
Flow Control: None
Emulation: VT100
(for more information, refer to the Proventia Network Security Controller User Guide) - You should now be able to see output from the Network Security Controller on your terminal emulator. If you cannot, please verify the network security controller is plugged in and the serial cable is properly connected.
