Procedure to reimage the SiteProtector appliance from hard disk boot menu

Question & Answer

Question

What is the procedure for reimaging the SiteProtector Appliance from the hard disk boot menu?

Answer

At times, it might be necessary to restore the SiteProtector appliance back to its default factory settings due to system instability or file corruption. This process restores the appliance back to the original manufactured configuration.

Important: When you restore the SiteProtector appliance, you erase all of the user data that is stored in the database, including events, policies, responses, and tickets. After you restore the SiteProtector appliance, you must completely reconfigure the SiteProtector appliance. Perform this procedure only when it is absolutely necessary to recover from a catastrophic failure or by direction of Technical Support.

Prerequisite

Do the following before you perform this procedure:
  • Ensure that you have written down the 25 character Product Key from the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker that is affixed to the bottom of the SiteProtector appliance.
  • Attach a monitor and keyboard to the SiteProtector appliance.

Procedure

To restore the SiteProtector appliance to the factory defaults, follow the instructions below:
  1. Restart the SiteProtector appliance. Upon startup, the SiteProtector appliance displays two boot options.
  2. Select the Restore to Factory Image option, and then click Enter.
Note: This operation overwrites all existing data on the application.
  3. When you are prompted to confirm your choice, click Yes.
  4. Read the IBM ISS license agreement, and then click Accept if you agree.
  5. When the Windows Setup window appears, type the Product Key in the boxes provided.
  6. Click Next, and then verify that the IBM ISS Proventia is displayed on the LCD.
Note: It can take several minutes for this to appear.
