Security Network IPS appliances in both inline and passive monitoring modes

Question & Answer

Question

Can the Security Network IPS (GX) appliances be configured in inline and passive monitoring at the same time on different segments?

Answer

The GX appliances are capable of running one segment as inline (IPS mode) and another segment in passive monitoring (IDS mode). In an eight port appliance configuration, you can have the appliance monitor eight segments in IDS mode, four segments in IPS mode, or a mixture. Essentially, each pair can be configured as inline or independent passive monitoring ports.

For example, you might want to run 1A-1B and 2A-2B in InlineProtection mode, 3A-3B in InlineSimulation mode, and 4A-4B in Monitoring mode (allowing for two independent sources to monitor).
