How to remove Rational Application Developer when Installation Manager does not recognize it as being installed

Question & Answer

Question

How do you remove IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software when IBM Installation Manager does not recognize it as being installed?

Cause

This technote is written for a system that only has Rational Application Developer and Installation Manager installed. You can use this technote for other Software Deployment Platform products; however, there are two exceptions that users need to consult with IBM Support team:

  1. A system has multiple IBM software products that are installed on top of Installation Manager.
  2. An IBM Software Deployment Platform product contains other applications that are not installed by Installation Manager and has special registry keys.

Answer

  1. Open installed.xml with a web browser to make sure that IBM Installation Manager only manages one installed product. By default, the installed.xml is located in C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\Installation Manager\ on Windows or /var/ibm/InstallationManager/ on UNIX/Linux.

  2. Delete folders SDPShared and SDP
By default, these directories are located in c:\Program Files\IBM on Windows or /opt/IBM/ on UNIX/Linux.

  3. Go to C:\Windows or the root directory on UNIX/Linux

  4. Open vpd.properties with a text editor

  5. Delete all the lines that have the following paths
    • "C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\runtimes\base_v" or "<your SDP Installed dir>\runtimes\base_v"
    • Save the file

  6. For Windows, remove Rational Application Developer registry from the Windows system.
    • Add or Remove Programs > Select IBM Software Delivery Platform >Ignore the error > Select Yes
    • Start > All Programs > Delete Rational Application Developer's shortcuts.

  7. Remove Installation Manager
    • Delete <Installation Manager installed dir>
By default this IBM Installation Manager is located in c:\Program Files\IBM\Installation Manager and /opt/IBM/InstallationManager
    • Delete Installation Manager folder in C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\Installation Manager\ on Windows or /var/ibm/InstallationManager/ on UNIX/Linux.
    • For Windows click Add or Remove Programs > Select IBM Installation Manager > Ignore the error > Select Yes

Note: Removing Installation Manager is required because the Installation Manager file instralledregistry.xml is populated with Rational Application Developer packages information.
