Abstract
You can use the interim fix tool to perform automated maintenance checks for WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1.0 and later.
Content
Use the interim fix tool to ensure your cell contains the recommended interim fixes necessary for WebSphere Virtual Enterprise to function correctly. Because Virtual Enterprise runs in an existing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environment, the tool checks for interim fixes recommended for both products. The tool creates two ZIP files: one file contains the interim fixes for Virtual Enterprise and one file contains the interim fixes for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.
Note: The recommended interim fixes for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment include only the interim fixes that are needed for the features of Virtual Enterprise to function correctly. However, you might need to install other WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment fixes not recommended by this tool. See Recommended fixes for WebSphere Application Server for more information.
Avoid trouble:
Procedure
1. Download and extract the attached ifixtool.zip file in the WAS_install_rootdirectory.
2. Run the WAS_install_root/bin/ifixTool.sh|.bat command to start the tool.

Usage
If your deployment manager node has Internet access, you can use the downloadAndCheckCell command. Assuming there are both WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment and WebSphere Virtual Enterprise interim fixes for the releases of the products in your cell, the downloadAndCheckCell command creates two ZIP files of interim fixes in the WAS_install_root/cimrepos directory.
If your deployment manager node does not have Internet access, manually download the appropriate ZIP files for each product release from the following site and transfer the files to the deployment manager node: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/websphere/extended/support/ifixInfo/latest/
You can then run the checkCell ND path_to_ND_zip_file and checkCell VE path_to_VE_zip_file commands separately to create the corresponding ZIP file for each product in the WAS_install_root/cimrepos directory.
Each ZIP file in the WAS_install_root/cimrepos directory contains a README.txt file and a HIERARCHY.txt file. The README.txt files provide a list and descriptions of the interim fixes. The HIERARCHY.txt files list any superseded interim fixes. You can review the lists of interim fixes to determine which ones you want to install.
