The Essbase® 9.3.1.4 Excel Addin causes an Alphablox "Export to Excel" error

Question & Answer

Question

Why is the "Microsoft Office Excel" error dialog displayed after an Alphablox user does the following steps to request an Alphablox export data to Microsoft® Excel: 1. Opens an Alphablox PresentBlox or GridBlox in the Microsoft® Internet Explorer . 2. Requests the Blox to perform an "Export to Excel" operation. 3. Clicks the "OK" button in the "Export Data to Excel -- Webpage Dialog ". 4. Clicks the "Open" button in the Microsoft® Internet Explorer "File Download" dialog.

Cause

Microsoft® Excel, configured to use the Essbase® 9.3.1.4 Excel Addin, causes the "Microsoft Office Excel" error dialog to be displayed when an Alphablox user issues an "Export to Excel" operation then clicks on the "Open" button in the Microsoft® Internet Explorer's "File Download" dialog. The Essbase® 9.3.1.4 Excel Addin by default sets the “LoadBehavior" value for the registry key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\Hyperion.EssbaseAddin

to 3. The “LoadBehavior" value 3 setting causes the "Microsoft Office Excel" error dialog to display when an Alphablox user requests an "Export to Excel" operation.

Answer

An Alphablox user requesting an "Export to Excel" operation, causes the "Microsoft Office Excel" dialog to appear, as shown in the image below, if Microsoft® Excel has been configured to use the Essbase® 9.3.1.4 Excel Addin.

The user's "Export to Excel" operation completes without any additional errors after clicking the "Microsoft Office Excel" dialog's "Don't Send" button.

The user can prevent appearance of the "Microsoft Office Excel" dialog during an "Export to Excel" operation by changing the LoadBehavior value for the Microsoft Registry key
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\Hyperion.EssbaseAddin.

The user changing the LoadBehavior value from Hexadecimal 3 to Hexadecimal 0 stops the Alphablox "Export to Excel" operation from producing the "Microsoft® Office Excel" error.

The following steps allows users to change the LoadBehavior registry key value:
    1. Click on the Microsoft® Windows "Start" then click on "Run".
    2. In the "Run" dialog's "Open" input area enter "regedit" then click the dialog's "OK button to start the Microsoft® Windows "Registry Editor".
    3. In the Mirosoft® "Registry Editor" Navigate to the registry key
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\Hyperion.EssbaseAddin.
    4. Click on the value LoadBehavior. You will see the"Edit DWord Value" dialog as illustrated by the following image:

    5. Change the LoadBehavior value data to 0. Leave the LoadBehavior’s base setting at "Hexadecimal".
    6. Finish by clicking the "Edit DWord Value" dialog's "OK" button then exit the Microsoft® Windows "Registry Editor"
