6.2.6 and 6.2.7 Online Support Resources Link Doesn't Link Correctly

Abstract

The release of Maximo 6.2 fixpack 6 and 7 introduced a powerful new link to bring users to important documents related to the Maximo product. This link includes a ? mark where an & should be. A minor edit to the help menu can resolve this issue.

The "Online Support Resources" link can be found under the help menu as shown below:


Overview of fix:
1) Export MENUS.xml
2) Edit the XML
3) Import MENUS.xml

Follow these detailed steps:

1) Export MENUS.xml
a) Go to the Start Menu -> Administration -> Configuration -> Application Designer


b) From the Select Action menu, select Export System XML


c) When the dialog loads, click the Export icon (blue arrow) for the MENUS record


d) A new browser window will open displaying the Menus.xml presentation.

In the new browser window choose File/Save As, and save the xml document on your local machine as menus.xml

2) Edit the XML

a) Open the local menus.xml file using a text editor such as notepad. Use caution when using editors that can transform the XML.

b) Search for id=”help_1a”

c) You will find the definition for the menuitem control that needs to be modified, and it looks like this:

link="http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21418666?ibmprd=tivmx6" />

d) Replace the embedded value of the link attribute (between the quotes) with the following link:

http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21418666&ibmprd=tivmx6

e) Save the file

3) Import the MENUS.xml

a) Go back to App Designer, and click on the Import Application Definition toolbar icon (you will have to close the Export System XML dialog if it is still open):

b) When the Import Application Definition dialog loads, browse for the local xml file you modified and then click the OK button. App Designer will import the file and the dialog will close.

c) Restart all Maximo instances
