TM1-ERR-0050 error when creating data source connection to TM1 server from Cognos BI

Problem

TM1-ERR-0050 An attempt to initialize the TM1 API failed. The TM1 error code is 502. The TM1 error message is "Could not load tm1api.dll due to: The specified module could not be found."

Symptom

A TM1-ERR-0050 error is presented when testing a data source connection to any TM1 data source.

Cause

The correct TM1 client was not installed

Resolving The Problem

This applies to Compatible Query Mode.

This problem may be resolved by running the 32 bit TM1 installer on the Cognos dispatcher server(s) as well as the Framework Manager installations. When going through the installer, ensure that "TM1 Client" is selected on the component selection screen.

It is also important you are running the 32 bit TM1 installer. The Cognos BI server requires the 32 bit libraries to make the connection to TM1. Installing the 64 bit client will not resolve the issue.
