The Data Protection for Lotus Domino V5.5.3 release includes new options that will enable customers to specify a date range filter to RESTOREArchivelog operations thereby reducing the amount of memory required to display available restore objects.
This information will available in the V6.x version of the Data Protection for Lotus Domino Installation and User's Guides once released. This tech note will serve as documentation of the function until that time.
Two new options have been added to the DOMDSMC RESTORELOGArchive command. These new options enable customers to define a specific point in time to which DP for Domino will restore the archive logs. These options provide an efficient mechanism to restore an archived transaction log file as required by the alternate server restore procedure. This mechanism avoids potentially long delays or out of memory conditions that can occur when trying to display all archived transaction logs in environments where very many domino transaction logs are stored on a TSM server.
The default behavior of the command is unchanged and the new options must be explicitly specified in order to take advantage of the new behavior.
These new options are available to the DOMDSMC RESTORELOGArchive command. Usage details for that command are available in the DP for Domino Installation and User's Guides.
The new options function in this way:
Specifies a point in time (day) when the transaction logs were archived. The date value must be specified in the same date format defined in the Data Protection for Domino preferences file. When the date is specified, all transaction log files archived on that day are restored. If used together with the /pick option, transaction logs archived on that day will be displayed so that a specific one can be selected for restore.
Used together with FROMDate to specify a date range if logs for more than one day are desired to be restored or viewed in the pick list. Todate must be >= Fromdate. The date value must be specified in the same date format defined in the Data Protection for Domino preferences file. When the Todate is specified, all transaction log files archived in the date range between fromdate and todate (inclusive) are restored. If used together with the /pick option, transaction logs archived in that date range will be displayed so that a specific one can be selected for restore.
