Upgrading Maximo 6 to 7 using SQL Server 2008, Oracle 11 or DB2 9.5

Technote (FAQ)

This document applies only to the following language version(s):

Maximo upgrade (6 to 7) changes when using either SQL Server 2008, Oracle 11 or DB2 9.5

Now that the new installer (MADT104) has been released and installs Base Services and fully supports SQL Server 2008 and Oracle 11 and DB2 9.5. However none of those database engine version are supported by the Maximo 6 to 7 upgrade (see below), those customers will have to use a slightly different upgrade method.
Maximo 6 to 7 Upgrade Guide - supported database platform versions:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2
DB2 8.2.7, 9.1.4*

So, the modified process would go like this:

1. Install Maximo (or higher - see Note below) which creates the initial database in one of the supported upgrade database platform versions (see above)

Note: For upgrading purposes only, each Maximo 6.2 version has a Maximo 7.1 matched version (one-off):

Maximo 6.2.8 upgrade to Maximo

2. For the upgrade, change the database connection line to point to the test copy of the Maximo 6.2.8 database (on one of the supported database engine versions).
3, Run the upgrade utilities to upgrade the database to the target Maximo release.
4. Migrate that upgraded database to the newer database engine version. If while migrating the upgraded database, the database name changes, be sure to adjust the accordingly.
