Get libstdc++.so.5 errors when installing DB2 for the ITCAM Managing Server.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Get libstdc++.so.5 errors when installing DB2 for the ITCAM Managing Server.

Cause

The RPM compat-libstdc++ standard C++ libraries are missing on your OS.

Environment

RHEL5 and SuSE9 or SuSE10.

Resolving The Problem

When installing DB2, you will see this error:

Some versions of RHEL5 and SuSE Linux require you to have the compat-libstdc++ packages installed for DB2 to install successfully. Contact your Linux administrator and have him/her install this missing standard C++ libraries. Or if you want to do it yourself, and are using RHEL, you can use the "Applications" and then "Add/Remove Software" menu. This will bring up the Package Manager window. Search for "compat-libstdc++" (see screenshot below) and then install these missing packages. After you install these packages, DB2 will install just fine. To update using SuSE Linux, use the YaST program.
