FTP Abnormally terminates when using CHECKREGIONLOSS

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following message may be seen when using CHECKREGIONLOSS and a new user is logging in to FTPD: IEF093I INITIATOR TERMINATED DUE TO REGION LOSS

Symptom

The following message is seen in syslogd:

RX1202 main: newuserid => execv main

Additionally, the following message is displayed on the operator console.

IEF093I INITIATOR TERMINATED DUE TO REGION LOSS

Cause

CHECKREGIONLOSS can cause FTPD to abnormally terminate new user sessions when FTPD is trying to use below the line storage as defined on the LE STACK parameter.

Resolving The Problem

To check the LE STACK parameter, issue the command

      D CEE,CEEDOPT
on the console. Within the output from this command, locate the entry which is similar to:

    PARMLIB(CEEPRM00)

    STACK(131072,131072,BELOW,KEEP,5242131072)

Alternatively, check the CEEPRMxx member.

If the STACK setting is BELOW, consider using the default setting, ANY, if possible. If this is not possible, the setting can be overridden for FTPD by following the instructions in Specifying TCP/IP server parameters in JCL (Technote #1177026) .
