Repotools unable to connect to Oracle RAC database

Technote (troubleshooting)


This technote provides a solution to an issue that can occur in an Oracle RAC environment when using Repotools to create tables for the IBM Rational Quality Manager server


When running Repotools at command line, an error similar to the following is displayed:

    C:\IBM\RQM20\server>repotools -createTables logFile=e:\tmp\reptools.log

    ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:


The Oracle host/port number and Oracle SID as defined in the file are not be interpreted properly by the Oracle TNS listener.

Resolving the problem

In Rational Quality Manager server file, change the location line for the vendor database to include a fully qualified domain name of the Oracle host and SID id.

Original = ORACLE{password}@//

Modified = ORACLE{password}@/
