Slow performance due to memory saturation in IBM Rational Focal Point

Problem(Abstract)

This technote explains how to resolve slow performance in IBM Rational Focal Point due to memory saturation.

Symptom

Slow access of views, navigation in tool and long time to add elements and attributes.

Cause

This issue is identified as a product defect and has been logged as APAR PM02380.

Memory saturation on the server where on Rational Focal Point will slowly consume all available memory over a course of time within 2 to 4 weeks.

Resolving the problem

Workaround:

Restart the Rational Focal Point server when the memory usage reaches its peak. This can be seen under Information -> About Focal Point

On Microsoft Windows

  1. Navigate to the services window by Start -> Run -> services.msc
  2. Stop the Apache Tomcat Service for Focal Point
  3. Start the service again

On Linux
  1. Stop the server using the script ./stopnode.sh located in the <Focal Point Installation Directory>
  2. Start the server using the script ./startnode.sh located in the <Focal Point Installation Directory>
